In the heart of Florence, an extraordinary event took place at the historic Palazzo Coppini, one of the city’s most prestigious venues, a symbol of excellence and culture. At Palazzo Coppini the Penko Goldsmith’s workshop showcased a selection of their extraordinary florentine jewellery, created for the film “Conclave” by Oscar-winning Edward Berger. This exhibition celebrated florentine goldsmithing art and its connection to the world of international cinema.

An event that highlights Florentine craftsmanship mastery

On February 17 2025, Palazzo Coppini was the ideal stage for the event “Jewels for Conclave: between Symbolism and Power.” This event highlighted the significant contribution of the Penko Goldsmith’s workshop to the world of cinema, with the creation of over 500 pieces for the film, nominated for the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards. The magnificence of the displayed jewels explored their symbolic and visual role as masterpieces within the cinematic and cultural context. 

During the exhibition, the audience had the opportunity to discover the craftsmanship techniques with Riccardo Penko, attend the screening of the documentary “The Making of – Jewels for the Film Conclave” and listen to a conference on the Italian Excellence Award. The presence of local authorities such as Jacopo Vicini, Councillor for Tourism and Economic Development, reinforced Palazzo Coppini’s role as a key venue for prestigious events that celebrate art and culture.

Palazzo Coppini not only celebrated the jewels created for “Conclave” but also supported the nomination of Penko Goldsmith’s workshop for the prestigious Italian Excellence Award. This recognition, which celebrates Italian craftsmanship excellence, highlights the importance of preserving the Florentine goldsmithing tradition, making it a globally recognized and admired symbol.

It doesn’t end here: Penko Goldsmith’s workshop will also be a key player in the 20th edition of “Los Angeles, Italia – Promoting The Best of Italy 2025”, a festival that celebrates Italian excellence worldwide. Participation in Hollywood not only enhances florentine jewelry but also reaffirms the unbreakable bond between Florence and the global film industry. 

To further highlight the significance of the event, Riccardo Penko presented Deborah Nadoolman Landis with the prestigious medal of the Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation. This special tribute honored her work as a costume designer and educator, creator of the iconic jacket worn by Michael Jackson in the “Thriller” video, as well as her contributions to major productions such as “The Blues Brothers”, “Animal House” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark”. This recognition celebrated her pivotal role in the worlds of fashion and cinema, as well as her close connection to the Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation.

The medal commemorated the meeting with Deborah Nadoolman Landis at Palazzo Coppini on June 20, 2023, during the 10th anniversary of the inauguration of the “Tokens of Gratitudes” museum at Palazzo Coppini, as well as the dedication of the Costume Colloquium room, which was attended by Joanna Marschner, Senior Curator at Historic Royal Palaces.
